Ghar Ghar Ma Swasthya(GGMS)

GHAR GHAR MA SWASTHYA (GGMS)
A USAID funded project, Ghar Ghar Maa Swasthya (GGMS) or Healthy Homes is a development health project, which seeks to improve the health of disadvantaged populations in Nepal via improved accessibility and availability to health products and services, especially in hard-to-reach rural areas through the use of social marketing and social franchising techniques. In doing so, GGMS supports the achievement of USAID’s Country Development Cooperation Strategy (2014-2018) and its goal of “A More Democratic, Prosperous, and Resilient Nepal.”

Nepal CRS Company shall implement the social marketing and social franchising program, GGMS from May 1, 2010 to April 30, 2020.

Alignment with Government Policies, Guidelines and Standards

The GGMS Program aligns with the following GoN policies, guidelines and standards:

●    GGMS will align with the new National Health Sector Strategy (NHSS, 2015-2020) which envisions “equitable service utilization, strengthening service delivery and demand generation to underserved populations, including the urban poor” as a core principle.

●    GGMS will support the new National HIV and AIDS Strategy 2016- 2020, by providing products and services for the most-at-risk segments of the population (sex workers and their clients in hot zones, Men who have Sex with Men (MSM), migrant workers and families in hill areas, etc.).

●    GGMS supports the National Health Communication Strategy for Family Planning, Maternal and Child Health by implementing and partnering with others to implement behavior change communication (BCC). GGMS follows this strategy by using the recommended three mutually reinforcing approaches of advocacy, social mobilization, and BCC deliverables.

Goal Statement

USAID’s GGMS project seeks to improve the health of disadvantaged populations in Nepal via improved accessibility and availability of health goods and services, especially in hard-to-reach rural areas, through the use of social marketing and social franchising techniques. In doing so, GGMS supports the achievement of USAID’s Country Development Cooperation Strategy (2014-2018) and its goal of “A More Democratic, Prosperous, and Resilient Nepal.”  By improving underprivileged and vulnerable populations’ access and use of quality health services and products, GGMS contributes directly to the fulfillment of Development Objective 3: “Increased Human Capital” and its Intermediate Result 3.2: “A Healthier and Well-Nourished Population.

The specific purposes of the GGMS project are to:

(a)    maximize the health impacts to Nepalis through the social marketing and social franchising of (including behavior change communications) FP/RH and MCH commodities, and
(b)    improve efficiency of the CRS organization as it relates to the successful achievement of GGMS program objectives.

Geographic Coverage

CRS is currently working in all 75 districts of Nepal.  CRS will continue to have a special focus on 16 mountain districts, 33 hill districts, and designated hot zones reaching the “unreachable and at-risk” Nepalese populations.  In these special focus areas, CRS will create awareness of and demand for FP, MCH and HIV/AIDS prevention products and services.  In doing so, CRS will utilize effective Behavior Change Communication (BCC) messages delivered through a variety of methodologies, including mass communications, street dramas and interpersonal communication (IPC).
